Abstract

This article relates the works carried out on traditional poultry farming in Morocco, by addressing the multiple socioeconomic, food, cultural and ecological importance of poultry production systems, on a small scale in the fight against poverty and food insecurity among vulnerable rural populations. After having raised the phenotypic characteristics of the country chicken « beldi »population and their zootechnical performances, this work describes the different aspects of the farming system, identifies the main constraints which slow down the development of this activity and places particular emphasis on the dominant pathological aspects of the beldi chicken.

Keywords: Traditional poultry farming, beldi chicken, dominant pathologies, Morocco
