Analysis of Dakar's household meat supply choice determinants in Dakar (Sénégal)
Abstract
This study purpose is to analyzes the determinants of household meat supply choices in the Dakar region. The sample consists of 500 households at random sampled in 2018. The econometric model used is a multinomial logistic model. The results show that residence area, type of consumption, frequency of consumption, meat criteria, meat source and consumption expenditure increase the possibility that households will purchase meat from neighborhood markets, modern butcher shops and supermarkets. However, socio-economic class, frequency of purchase, price, reasons for purchase and quantity of meat negatively affect supply in modern butcher shops. Furthermore, the purchase criterion, the consumption period and the quantity decrease the supply possibilities in supermarkets. These results suggest more investment in livestock policies and programs to increase the availability and reduce the cost of meat in the supply chain.
