Dominance of Dactylurina staudingeri, Apis mellifera and Meliponula sp in the Apidofauna of the Luki Biosphere Reserve, DR Congo
Abstract
Bees are the most important Hymenopterans in the pollination of plants. Therefore, it is recognized that the dominant presence of honeybees can have a negative influence on solitary bees and other pollinators, and thus disadvantage plants that they cannot visit themselves. In order to know the dominant pollinators species in the Luki Biosphere Reserve, a study was conducted from July 2021 to June 2022. At the end of this study, 6308 specimens of 81 species were captured. However, three species (Dactylurina staudingeri, Apis mellifera and Meliponula sp) accounted for 76.2% of captures. Moreover, these three species showed a polylectic diet with a daily activity from 10 am to 3 pm.
