Abstract

The main objective of this study was to diagnose on a farm level the production link of the milk value chain in the Gourma dairy basin. For this purpose, a retrospective survey of the year 2020 was carried out with 65 dairy farms. It concerned the dairy farmers of the sites of Kikideni, Kouaré and the city of Fada. It appears that the majority of breeders are from the Peulh ethnicity. In the study area, the average size of the herds is 23 heads with an average dairy nucleus of 4 heads. The Zébu Peulh race is the most represented race in the dairy nuclei. The mestizos of exotic races although little represented, are mainly encountered in urban areas. The dairy performance per cow per day vary depending on the seasons with a peak in full rainy season. The sale price of the liter of milk varies very little. The typological analysis showed three (3) groups of dairy producers in the urban and peri-urban area of Fada N’Gourma. Among the factors with an influence on the level of production, there is the presence of crosses with exotic breeds, the practice of fodder production, the high purchase of spai, the training of producers and a heard greater than 50 heads. The performance of the herds of the peri-urban and urban farms in Fada were comparable to those of the herds of the West African sub-region.
